We Need to Take Advantage of Our Opportunities

It has been a very interesting year for the cattle business and all the beef production chain. While weather and the seasons still call the tune for agriculture, politics has certainly dominated the news more than any time in recent history. Change is like that.

We have concentrated on the facts and opinions important to the big picture and to our industry.

As an industry, we have dealt with a lot of frustrating issues over the last four years. There is no magic bullet just because conservative thought and common sense seemed to dominate in this election. The opposition is not sure why they have lost the confidence of many of the American people but they have not changed their opinions or beliefs. They will regroup and fight for the same “rights” and programs as before.

They are chalking up their defeat to not communicating their message well. We think it is because their policies didn’t work, didn’t provide what people wanted.  Or they went so far around the bend that even open-minded people considered them unconscionable.

Your cattlemen’s groups are essential in representing you in state and national capitols. But because they deal with legislators directly, they must be more diplomatic to preserve their standing.

We, on the other hand, do not have to be diplomatic. We can call a spade a spade.

Or, as one affiliate CEO said, “AFF says what we would like to say but can’t!”

Andrew Breitbart said politics follows culture. Our cultural pendulum has swung back towards the principles that made America great. We have to take advantage of the change.

People are policy. We will have people in key government posts that will listen to our point of view and agree with common sense solutions. The approach of government leaving the private sector alone to fix things should be regarded as the first option, rather than turning over the problem to government to “fix.”

That means we have a great opportunity to make some positive changes for our lives and our businesses. Our efforts should yield more positive results, instead of just defensively fighting off ridiculous concepts, ideologies and strictures.

As we have for the last two decades, we will provide you with the important factual background and the routes you can consider for moving the ball forward.

Thanks to all of you who have made our efforts possible and we hope you will continue to favor us with your monetary support. To those who have not been on board before, we hope you will decide to help us now and in the future. There is no other group out there that has

provided the information that we have, for as long as we have, with the background and perspective that we have.

Thank you and please consider helping.
